He was predeceased by: his parents, John Smith and Dorothy "Dora" Stockert Smith of Dobbin; his parents-in-law, Charles and Mary Hughes of Houston; his siblings, Irene Bolton, Rose Emma "Pinkie" Savoy and Marvin Smith; his siblings-in-law, Nathan Savoy, Jubal Bolton, Charles Hughes, Tom Palermo, Pat Williamson, Therese Palermo, Winnie Williamson, Sandra Hughes and Josephine Hughes; his grandson Ian Smith; and his nephew Jared Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Ann Hughes Smith; and his children, James I. Smith, Jr. (Jeanie Smith) of Kingwood, Jerome (Amy Smith) of Dobbin, Jennifer (Gabe Smith) of Sealy, Janette (Alex Arellano) of New Caney and Jacquelyn (Shaun Tigrett) of Dobbin. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 23rd 2026 from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM at the St. Mary's Catholic Church (8227 Cr205, Plantersville, TX 77363). A rosary will be held on Friday, October 23rd 2026 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM at the same location. A Mass will be held on Friday, October 23rd 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the same location.
