He was predeceased by: his parents, Alvis Chapell and Veneta Spence Bryan. He is survived by: his wife Janet Bryan of Naples; his children, John Alvis Bryan, Jr. of Houston, Charles Henry Bryan of Naples and Jennifer Anne Bryan of Plattsburgh; and his sisters-in-law, Mary Beth Hurd (Neil) of Katy and Martha Ellen Robert of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Naples or the NTCC Honors Program.
