He was predeceased by: his parents, S. T. "Tuggy" Johnson and Cleo Johnson; his wife Velma Lois Williams Johnson; and his siblings, Mabel Christine Johnson McVey and Bill Johnson.

He is survived by: his sons, Joe Johnson (Teresa) and Jamie Johnson (Susan); his sister Dorris Harris; his grandchildren, Heather Villa (Steven), Wesley Johnson and Magen Johnson; his great grandchildren, Kaylie Willoughby, Macy Willoughby and Willow Johnson; and his close friend Laurie Timmerman.
