He was predeceased by: his parents, Gordon Lanning and Maribel Thompson Lanning; and his brothers, Richard "Buddy" Lanning and William "Bill" Lanning. He is survived by: his children, Allen Lanning (Sandra) of The Woodlands, Terry Lanning LeGrande (Mark) of Beaumont and Carla Lanning Dunn (Jonathon) of Pearland; his granddaughter Amanda Petroff (Kevin); his children, Eric Lanning (Leo), Katie LeGrande, Kelli LeGrande, Blake Opper and Melissa Laudig; his great grandchildren, Cate Petroff, Nora Petroff, Jane Kitchen and Vera Kitchen; Robert "Bubba" Lanning, Leighia Beth Lanning Barron and Rebecca Annette Lanning Owens. He is also survived by Papa, or Great Papa, he loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Saturday, December 6th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Claybar Funeral Home (504 5th St, Orange, TX 77630, USA). A funeral service was held on Saturday, December 6th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
