He was predeceased by: his parents, Clede Spell and Hazel Spell; his wife Winifred Buxton Spell; and his siblings, Alden Spell (Claudia) and Lois Morgan (Gervis).

He is survived by: his children, Mike Spell, Vicki Stoy (Joe), Jeanie Kreger (Ken) and Deidra Spell (Bryant Vaughn); his grandchildren, Courtney Garza (Dago), Deidra McCart (Tyler), Stephanie Hall (Brandon) and Garrett Kreger (Katie); his great grandchildren, Marissa Garza, Mikayla Garza, Dago Garza, Jr., Dixie Donald, Logan Hall, Landon Hall, Piper Kreger and Gavin Kreger; and his cousin Bonnie Murphy (Steve). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and other family members.
