He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Blackwell and Ruby Blackwell; his wife Virginia Fulks; and his siblings, Maureen Eastland, Ray Blackwell and Herman Blackwell.

He is survived by: his son Jon (Heather) of Amarillo; his grandsons, Ryan of Friona and Tate of Amarillo; his brother Virgil Blackwell (Dixie) of Iowa Park; and his sister-in-law Donna Lee of Abernathy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
