He was predeceased by: his parents, John Goodwin Smith and Lula Sargent Smith; and his siblings, J. L. Smith, John Goodwin Smith, Jr., Luther "Smitty" Smith, Patsy Penton and Elgie Wood.

He is survived by: his wife Betty Jane Bolton; his daughters, Niki Mathews (Duwane) and Kristi Harvey (Mike); his grandsons, Chris Mathews (Courtney), Chase Harvey (Chelsea) and Kaden Harvey (Mariah Howard); his great grandchildren, Carter Harvey and Callan Harvey; and his siblings, Grady Smith and Shirley Smith.
