He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann Zarate; his children, Miranda Amara Spencer and Vernon L. Spencer Jr. (BJ); his siblings, Rhonda West Anderson (Wade Anderson) and George Spencer (Delinda Spencer); his foster sister Shirley Palacious; and his sister-in-law Paula Zarate Caudillo. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
