He was predeceased by: his parents, Everett Cowan and Mildred Cowan; his former wife Evelyn Peters; and his siblings-in-law, Amelia Cowan, Dean Peters, Johnny Simmons and Jim Sheahan.

He is survived by: his wife Anita; his children, Byron Cowan (Christina) of Pawhuska, Daron Cowan (Holly) of Ulysses, Kansas and Dawn Wythe (Curtis) of Yukon, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Mel Ray Albright of Balko, Oklahoma., Tanner Cowan, Lily Cowan, Joe, Angelo Wythe, Mason, Madison, Morgan Hough-Anderson and Destiny Anderson; his great grandchild Paige; his siblings, Stevie of Balko, Dannie of Balko, Billy of Balko, Carl (Nona) of Perryton and Jeannie Benson (Terry) of Amarillo, Texas.; and his sisters-in-law, Jerry Sheahan of South Hutchinson and Jere Peters of South Hutchinson. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
