He was predeceased by: his parents, Marshall Lee and Mattie Bell Johnson (Taylor); his wife Geneva R. Johnson; his son James R. Johnson; and his grandson Brandon Blake Johnson.

He is survived by: his children, Marci Johnson (Joseph) of Plainview, Russell Johnson of Plainview and Joe Johnson (Christy) of Floydada; and his siblings, Emory C. Johnson of Scottsdale, AZ, Joann S. Brendle of Clemons, N. C., Berniece Bass of Bladenboro, N. C. and Mable Britt of Bladenboro, N. C.. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
