He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Muir and Blanche Muir. He is survived by: his wife Annette Muir of Year's Eve; his children, R. T. Muir (Lyric) and Dee Estep (Brandon); his siblings, Robin Muir (Dawna), Roma Muir and Ronda Muir; and his grandchildren, Cole and Campbell Muir. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins and other family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Park Foundation.
