Thelma Frances Curtis Obituary

Thelma Frances Rutledge, 86, of Mirando City, Texas, went home to our Lord Sunday, February 7, 2021. Fran was born November 17, 1934 in San Marcos, Texas to Felix & Helen Rutledge. She graduated from San Marcos High School in 1952. She married Harold Curtis March 30, 1953 at the First Baptist Church of San Marcos. During their 67 years of marriage, they lived in many cities across the southern United States – wherever Harold’s job took them. Their last stop was a 2½ year assignment in Douala, Cameroon, Africa. While keeping Mirando City, TX as home base during their retirement years, they traveled the world, but eventually moved to the Dallas area in 2017 when Fran’s health declined.

Fran is preceded in death by parents, Felix & Helen Rutledge, brothers Felix Jr. and Gene Rutledge and sister Constance Rutledge. She is survived by her loving husband, Harold; her three daughters & their husbands – Diana & Kevin Cogan, Lisa & Jeff Mahlmann, Cynthia & Paul Dague – plus 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was a selfless woman, devoted to her husband and three daughters. She was a prayer warrior and was dedicated to the study of God’s Word. She taught children’s Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years and blessed multiple church congregations with her beautiful singing voice.

The family requests donations to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, in lieu of sending flowers. The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering was started in 1888 to send missionaries to China. Today, funds support missionaries all over the world. This offering is unique from other mission offerings in that 100% of donations directly support missionaries. Three donation options for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering:
1. Mail a check to IMB (International Mission Board): 3806 Monument Ave., Richmond, VA 23230. You may note on the check “in memory of Fran Curtis”
2. Go online to imb.org.
3. Call IMB at 1-800-999-3113 for personal assistance making a donation.
