He is survived by: his spouse Cherry Jones Gates of Port Arthur; his children, Brian Gates of Hemphill, Texas, Wendy Culpepper of Port Arthur, Texas and Gina Matson of Port Neches, Texas.; his sister Maudine White of Port Acres; his sister-in-law Nancy Self of Orangefield, Texas.; his son Shane Gates; his sisters, Ginger Goats and Dale Simon; and his brother-in-law Tom Self. He is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren.
