Leonel Alaniz Sr. Obituary

We announce the death of Leonel Alaniz Sr. (Port Isabel, Texas), who passed away on October 7, 2026, at the age of 91. Leonel will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecilio Garza Alaniz and Catarina Montelongo Gonzales; and his siblings, Hermeregildo G. Alaniz, Sandalio G. Alaniz, Leon G. Alaniz, Guadalupe G. Alaniz, Benito Alaniz, Cecilio Alaniz Sr., Uvaldo Alaniz, Maria Emma Alaniz Garza, Maria Guadalupe Alaniz and Sofia Alaniz Torres.

He is survived by: his children, Leonel Alaniz Jr. (Cynthia), Belinda Cavazos (Crisanto) and Irma Petra Martinez (Ernesto); and his wife Petra Chapa Alaniz.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 27th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Thomae Garza Funeral Home (395 S Sam Houston Blvd, San Benito, TX 78586). A rosary will be held on Tuesday, October 27th 2026 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the same location. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 28th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church (751 S Longoria St, Port Isabel, TX 78578).
