He was predeceased by : his father R. C. Dickey; his wife Debra; and his grandparents, Austin and Beulah Woodard. He is survived by : his sons, Aaron Dickey of Ennis and Austin Dickey of Red Oak, Texas; his mother Mary Ida William (Woodard) of Red Oak, Texas; his sisters, Lisa (Gary Beaty) of Waxahachie, Lori (Chim Curry) of Waxahachie and Amy Dickey Killgo of Red Oak, Texas; his nieces and nephews, Courtney, Caitlin, Hannah, Cameron and Cody; his great-nieces, Tinsley, Collins, Maddie and Maddox; and his mother-in-law Faye Hall of Ennis. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and other extended family members and friends.

The family has requested donations be made in James' name to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
