He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernard "Ben" Vanek and Mary Vanek (Hutyra); his brother Bernard Vanek; his sons-in-law, Kenneth Dews and Jim Strickland; and his grandsons, Gordon Dews and Jonathon Dews.
He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Vanek of Robinson; his children, Randy Vanek (Tracy) of Oglesby, Pamela Strickland of Robinson, Greg Vanek (Ann) of Dallas, Deanna Horn (Dale) of Waco and Pat Vanek (Sharon) of Crawford; and his siblings, Al Vanek (Elizabeth) and Bernice Petter (Alois). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be held on Friday, October 23rd 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel (808 S Reagan St, West, TX 76691). Visitation will be held on Friday, October 23rd 2026 at 8:00 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the St. Martin's Catholic Church (301 St Martins Church Rd, West, TX 76691).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bishop Louis Reicher Catholic High School in memory of Johnny Vanek.
