He was predeceased by: his parents, Alvin Avant and Elizabeth Avant (Marley); his siblings, June Hooper, Eugene Avant, Kathyrn Avant and Vernon "Sleepy" Avant; and his in-laws, Willie and Dorothy Pavelka.

He is survived by: his wife Wylma Pavelka; his children, Amanda Boone (Justin) and William Avant (Angela); his grandchildren, Hunter, Anna, Daniella, William and Evelyn; his brother Darwin Avant (late Betty); his siblings-in-law, Joyce Danysh and Otto Danysh; his nephew Matt Danysh (Samantha La Plant); and his great-nephews, Clay and Joel Danysh.
