She was predeceased by: her parents, P. H. Freeman and Minie Mae Freeman (Speed); and her brother L. Michael Freeman. She is survived by: her husband John Durkay; her sons, Mark Durkay of Fredericksburg, Jeffrey Durkay (Mary) of San Angelo and Brian Durkay (Dannielle) of San Angelo; her brothers, Jerry Freeman of Akron and Robert Freeman of San Angelo; her grandchildren, Nicole Key (Joe) and Michael Durkay; and her great grandchildren, Jaylee Key and MaKenna Key.

“Dorothy and I are deeply saddened by Barbara's passing. We first met her in 1967 when we were stationed in Germany and Dorothy was a newly arrived bride. Barb helped Dorothy learn some of the ropes of being an Army wife in a foreign land. Bonds like that tend to be lifelong, even if personal contact is rare in the ensuing years. We cherish Barb's memory and feel very fortunate to have known her. We offer our sympathy to John and the rest of Barb's family. God bless them all.”
