He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Robert Bates and Marilyn Bates; his siblings, Mary, Jim, Dave and Tom; his children, Seth and Emily; his sister Cindy; and his grandsons, Bennett and Arthur. He was also cherished by his wife, children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, tribe of friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 6th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Laird Funeral Home (2116 South St, Nacogdoches, TX 75964). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 7th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Austin Heights Church (2806 Appleby Sand Rd, Nacogdoches, TX 75965).
