He was predeceased by: his siblings, Isidro Mares, Amparo Mares, Regina Mares, Juana Mares and Jose Mares; and his parents, Doroteo Mares and Demencia Zavala Mares.
He is survived by: his wife Dominga Mares; and his children, Maria Mares, Margarita Mares, Jose Mares, Gerardo Mares, Conrado Mares and Felipe Mares. He is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.
