We announce the death of John Henry Schmidt (Seguin, Texas), who passed away on October 7, 2026, at the age of 89. John Henry will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Lucille Schmidt and Christian Schmidt Sr.; his stepmother Alvina "Blondie" Schmidt; his children, John Wesley Schmidt and Laura Davis; and his siblings, Hilmar Schmidt, Cleburn Schmidt, Robert Schmidt, William Schmidt, Kenneth Schmidt, Franklin Schmidt, Joe Schmidt, David Schmidt, Christian Schmidt Jr., Jack Schmidt Sr., Mildred Hansmann, Viola Gotthardt and Lou Audrey Ramzinsky.
He is survived by: his wife Deborah Schmidt; his former wife Ellen Schmidt; his children, Debra Ratterree and Nolan Schmidt; his sisters-in-law, Lillian Emily Schmidt and Leticia Loaiza Schmidt; his grandsons, Mark Davis Jr., Clayton Ratterree (Emily), Jake Davis (Casey) and Colin Ratterree; and his great grandchildren, Alexis Nelson, Addison Ratterree, Finley Lou Davis, Charli Ratterree, Callie Ratterree and Calan Davis. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 19th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Palmer Mortuary & Cremations (1116 N Austin St, Seguin, TX 78155). A prayer will be held on Tuesday, October 20th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Tuesday, October 20th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Elm Creek Community Cemetery (3301 Church Rd, Seguin, TX 78155).
