He was predeceased by: his parents, Perfecto Chaves and Isabel Chaves; and his nephew Chris Chaves. He is survived by: his wife Maria Chaves; his brother Fernando Chaves of Seminole, Texas; his children, Stella Chaves of The Colony, Ruben Chaves (Barbara) of Wink, Esther Chaves of Seminole, Texas, Christina, Pablo, Missy, Valerie and Annie; and his adoptive son Christopher. He is also survived by six grandsons, one granddaughter, and sixteen great‑grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
