He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Odell Rushing and Mary Frances Huffman Rushing; his former wives, Shirley Bartelmey Rushing and Ruby Riggins Rushing; his son Dean Perkins; his granddaughter Cheyla Ruth Pettett; his children-in-law, Paul Dean Pettett and Angie Bow Rushing; and his siblings, William Odell, Daniel, Charles, Bobby, Edward, Mary, Nelda, Shirley, Horace, Clois, Glen, Doris Dee and Phyllis June.
He is survived by: his wife Jackie Day Rushing; and his children, Karen Day Hawkins, Dawn Perkins Krutilla (Steve), Ken Day (Mitzi), Stephanie Rushing Pettett, Jeffrey Joe Rushing (Gail), Daniel Wade Rushing (Michelle), Deborah Day Murphree (Blake) and John Henry Rushing (Heather). He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Dannel Funeral Home (302 S Walnut St, Sherman, TX 75090). A funeral service was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Grayson Bible Baptist Church (4400 US-82, Sherman, TX 75090). A burial was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at 3:15 PM at the Luella Cemetery (4006 Luella Rd, Sherman, TX 75090).
