She was predeceased by : her parents, Lillie Bell Brown and Wardell Brown; and her siblings, Bettye Campbell and Gene Brown. She is survived by : her children, Gregory Scruggs of Arlington Tx, Gweneen Scruggs of Tampa Florida, Gaylon Scruggs (Lisa Scruggs) of McKinney and Greta Jackson (Robert Bowen Jackson Jr) of New Haven, Michigan; and her siblings, Henry Brown, Joe Nathan Brown Sr., Joe Earl Brown, Kevin Malvern and Joyce Ball. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ms Beamon wrote a sympathy message

“To: The Scruggs Family From: The Perkins-Beamon Family of Denison Our families have been intertwined for many years. We are deeply saddened by Ms. Opals passing; but we know that "To Live is Christ and to die is Heaven's gain." She loved our Grandmother Bernice and we will always cherish that part of her extended kindness and love shown. I encourage you look to hills for your strength in the days ahead.
