He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Thoms and Mildred Thoms; his former wife Linda Southerland Thoms; and his nephew Matthew Ellis. He is survived by: his wife Linda Jo; his children, Michael Thoms of Allen and Tiffany Adami; his son-in-law Chip of Sherman; his daughter Jennifer Aveard; his son-in-law Kris of Allen; his stepchildren, Simon Vandergriff (Julie) of McKinney and Connie Vandergriff of Sherman; his brother Donald Thoms; his sister-in-law Karen of Neptune; his sister Shirley Carson of Staten Island; and his grandchildren, Collin Adami, Mary Kate Adami, Gracie Adami, Brennan Aveard, Lainey Aveard, Truman Vandergriff and Sadie Jo Vandergriff.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church.
