He was predeceased by: his parents, Pamela Mitchell and Jerry Mitchell; and his brother Troy Mitchell. He is survived by: his children, Jessica Mitchell Garcia (Frankie Garcia), Amber Mitchell, Robert Mitchell Jr., Megan Shriver (Mitchell Shriver) and Krystal Killough; his sister Jerri Lynn Mills (John Mills); and his nephews, Justin Mitchell (Maggie Mitchell), Troy Lee Mitchell Jr. and Jon Eric Mills. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends.
