It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dana Skelton of Terrell, Texas, born in Clarksdale, Mississippi, who passed away on December 7, 2025, at the age of 76, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Billy Skelton (Jane) and Marion Skelton; and his brother Bob Waller. He is survived by: his wife Sherry Skelton of Terrell, Texas; his children, Laura O'Donnell (John) of Frederick, Maryland and Will Skelton (Corrinne) of Highland Village, Texas; his grandchildren, Juliana, William, Elizabeth Foster, Claire and Jack Skelton; his stepgrandchildren, Joshua and Faith O'Donnell; and his sister Deborah Skelton of Jackson. He is also survived by family members, friends, coworkers.

Visitation was held on Thursday, December 11th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Max Slayton Funeral Chapel (642 N Rockwall Ave, Terrell, TX 75160). A celebration of life was held on Friday, December 12th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the First Christian Church (405 N Adelaide St, Terrell, TX 75160).

Joshua Patton lit a candle

“Mr. Skelton had a greater impact on my life than he ever knew. I was a troubled kid with no direction, and he took me under his wing, going so far as to take me to a Mavericks game, and gave me life-changing insights. I was an okay trombone player with no special interest in it, and he helped guide me to a lifelong love of music (especially jazz) and true excellence on the instrument. My heart goes out to you as you mourn, and I hope it brings some comfort to know he made the world better.”
