He is survived by: his wife Judi Matej; his siblings, Becky Woods, Joe Matej and Vincent Matej; his children, Vanessa Soto Escalera, Stephen Matej Jr. and Michael Matej; his siblings' children, Christopher Woods, Adam Matej, Andrew Matej, Alex, Garrett, Ryan and Angela Matej Hill; his grandchildren, Lauren Soto, Lexi Escalero (Hayden Matej), Stephen Matej III, Christopher Matej, Lucas Matej and Matthew Matej; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Paige Matej, Abigail Matej, Marina Thusden, Elizabeth Matej, Aubrey Hill (Emery Hill), Emelynn Matej, Hudson Woods and Logan Matej; his stepdaughters, Jackie Byers and Billie Larson; and his stepgrandsons, Dylan Thomas, Levi Luna, Lane Dodson, Justin Cogdill, Eli Byers, Wyatt Byers and Hunter Byers (Charlie Ward).
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the SPCA, in honor of Stephen's love for animals.
