He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Jackson Whitney II and Ethel Mae Yount; his son Herbert "Bert" Jackson Whitney II; and his half-siblings, Ronnie Copellar and Jennette Cornwell.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Wilson-Whitney of October; his children, Dell Weston Whitney and Janie Elizabeth DeCesare; and his grandchildren, Justin Whitney, Jonah Boyd, Shane Whitney and Sadie Boyd.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
