He was predeceased by: his parents, Royce Sr. Thornton and Cleda Thornton; and his sister Diane Fowler. He is survived by: his wife Mary Lou Adkins; his children, Molly Elizabeth Larson (Eric), Jeremy Porter Thornton (Kathyrn Leigh) and Meghann Vivian Crane; his grandchildren, Mallory Elizabeth Elkins (Bryan), Hanna Leigh Pate, Charles Edward Thornton (Chet), Mary Agnes Thornton (Mattie), Thornton Rix and Josie Page Crane; his great grandchildren, Harris Hunter Smith, Claire Elizabeth and Lucy Pate Elkins; and his brother-in-law Dr. Littleton Fowler.
