He is survived by: his wife Susan McKinley; his children, Karen Ivy (Johnny), Amanda Gates (James) and Joe McCown (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Hillary Turnage (James), Haley Lugo (Eric), Josh Ivy (Paige), Tre Scarmardo and Makayla McKinley; his children, Aubrey Gates, Carlee Shrake, Kinley McCown and Abigail Gates; his great grandchildren, Khloie, Kora, Rory, Jacob, Ryder and JohnJohn; his aunt Louise Edwards; his former wife Darlene McKinley; and his brother-in-law Allen Morgan. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
