He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Gates and Coise Gates; and his brother Charles Wade Gates. He is survived by: his wife LaRuth Gates; his son Greg Gates; his daughter-in-law Julie Hirshfield; his daughter Jennifer McCreight; his son-in-law Jason McCreight; his grandchildren, Lily, Ruby Gates, Carson and Avery McCreight; and his brother Don Gates. He is also survived by his nephews, nieces, and many cousins.
