He was predeceased by: his parents, Grady Leon Coates and Cora Mae Coates; his brother Kenneth Paul; and his sister-in-law Mary Jo Brunson Coates. He is survived by: his wife Sandra Jean Sanders Coates; and his sons, Craven Coates (Amy Coates) of Argyle Texas and Clayton Coates (Allison Coates) of Camarillo California. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
