He was predeceased by: his parents, Murry Philips and Vera Reed Philips; his brother Tommy Philips; his daughter Cathy Motley; and his great grandchild Ellington Stringer.

He is survived by: his wife Lorna Gail Philips; his daughters, Terry (Skip Honeycutt) and Linda (John Estes); his siblings, Nelda (Ben Pessel) and Bobby (Sandy Philips); his sister-in-law Ann Philips; his grandchildren, Carissa Quinn, JD Paulk, Holly (Kevin McKinney), Charles (Dina Estes), Elizabeth (Bryce Stringer), Rebekah (Luke Millier), Sarah (Michael Hancock) and Laura Estes; and his great grandchildren, Caitlin (Cody), Mackenzie, Devon, Leiley, Jude, Hunter, Ava, Calum, Andersen, McLane, Eleanor, Cohen, Jovee and Booker.
