He is survived by: his wife Mary Jo Cooper of Tyler, Texas; his daughter Julie Cooper Simmons (Stephen) of Garland, Texas; his son-in-law Jeff Eads of San Antonio, Texas; his grandchildren, Stephanie Simmons Barrans (James) of Desoto, Texas and Jeffrey Eads of San Antonio, Texas; his nephew Alan Day (Nancy) of Weston, Massachusetts; and his cousins, Tom Cooper of Chandler and Ann York of Brentwood, Tennessee..

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that a donation be made in John's name to the ASPCA of Texas or the American Cancer Society.
