He was predeceased by: his parents, Winno Jean (Holmes) and Ervin Crockett Penney, Sr.; his former wife Merri Upchurch Penney; his siblings, Cecilia Kirk, Jettie McGee, Barbara Clark, Mary Elizabeth Herring and Kenneth Upchurch (Tater); his son-in-law Rusty Maddox; his parents-in-law, Henry and Wilma Upchurch; and his granddaughter Stephany Ann Bowden.
He is survived by: his wife Evelyn Gresham (Sandy); his children, Melynda Collins (Chevy) of Uvalde, Vicki Penney of Uvalde, Tommi Maddox of Uvalde, Molly Penney of Uvalde, John Cecil Penney, Jr. (Tammy) of Eddie and Henry Penney (Pallie) of Knippa; and his siblings, Nancy Rae Perry of Navasota and Ervin Penney of Grapevine. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
