He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Cross and Helen Ruth Enbey Buss; and his stepfather Vernon Buss. He is survived by: his wife Gloria J. Cross; his children, John Cross, Jr. (Karen) and Donna Bryan (Eric); his siblings, William Cross, Edward Cross, Danny Cross and Lilly Skerry; and his stepsiblings, Wayne Buss and Kathy Kerriker. He is also survived by six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren.
