He was predeceased by: his wife Priscilla "Tippy" Gowens; his parents, Sylvester Gowens and Minnie Gowens; and his siblings, Gwendolyn "Gwen" Gentry and Bernard Gowens.

He is survived by: his daughters, Shelly Raines (Charley) and Kari Gowens; his grandchildren, Jeffrey Raines (Sarah), Kristen (Jonathan Eaves), Brian Raines (Tiffany), Morgan (James Murchison) and Kenzie (Aaron Bowley); and his siblings, Clifford Gowens (Lenora), Jimmie Gowens (Sandi) and Geraldine Gentry (Travis). He is also survived by relatives, friends, and his beloved church family.
