He was predeceased by: his parents, Angus Jefferson and Annie Webb Sheffield; and his siblings, A. J. Sheffield and Mary Ella Dean. He is survived by: his wife Sandra "Sandy" Sheffield; his children, Jeff Sheffield (Cynthia), Rene Benavidez, Karen Hudson and Pam Bruton; and his sister Annie Lois Jenkins. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
