He is survived by : his wife Lenore (Mullen); his children, Elizabeth, John and Sara; his children-in-law, David, Mae and Zack; his nephews, Jake and John; his grandchildren, Emma, Rebecca, Elijah, Peanut, Mila, Milo and Baby Wise; his siblings, David, Linda, Ron, Deborah, Richard, Bill and Marsha; and also, Alison and Marie.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a tribute to Plan International (formerly Foster Parents Plan), an organization John donated to every month for 53 years.

“Dear Lenore and the entire Walker family, my sincere condolences on Johnny's passing. I grew up in Waltham. Johnny and brother David were my two best friends. Johnny being older than me, looked after me like an older brother does. He was caring and made sure I was always part of the Walker family. In 2019 I had the wonderful experience with marrying my long time dearest friend, Sheila Caisey. We were so honored that Johnny and Lenore attended our wedding reception. Sheila & Wally Durkin”
