He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar Nielsen and Myrtle Cramer Nielsen; his daughter Colleen Nielsen; his son-in-law Ronald Hall; and his grandson Brent Hall.

He is survived by: his wife Dortha Nielsen; his children, Dorthy Hall, Judy Oderkirk (Roger), Rosalie Nielsen, Doug Nielsen, John Nielsen (Crystal) and Dale Nielsen (Candi); and his brother Boyd Nielsen. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; and 8. 75 great-grandchildren.
