He is survived by: his wife Alayne Gayle Hammond Matthews; his children, Julie Schow (Einar), Michele Coffey (David), Virginia, Tricia Holden, Melissa Schrade (Jon), Shane Holden (Lori) and Amber Lil Matthews-Snow; and his brother Kent Matthews. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.
