He was predeceased by: his parents, Zella Jane Price Thompson and Claudy Albert Thompson; his sister Janice Long; his siblings-in-law, Zed Long, David Pearcey, Carolee Thompson and Sandra Thompson; and his nibling Kim Grant Thompson.

He is survived by: his wife Esther Caley Thompson; his children, Debbie Stratford (Wade), Colleen Schofield (LaMont), John Thompson (Joyce) and Beverly Sudweeks (Kirt); his daughter-in-law Christine Smith Thompson; and his foster son Kevin Lynn Thompson (Charlotte). He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren.
