She was loved and cherished by many people including : her parents, E. "Finn" Gibbs and Mildred Gibbs; her husband David Shumway; her daughters, Cindy (Craig) and Stacy (Rod); and her sister Diane McCabe. She was also cherished by nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ila's contributions to her community and loved ones were numerous.
