He was predeceased by: his mother Betty Leona Liddell Johnson; his former wife Jamela Johnson; his son Justin Mitterling; his father Harold Johnson; and his brother-in-law Michael Walton.
He is survived by: his wife Karen Mitterling Johnson; his children, Cody Graham (Suzanne), Brad Johnson, Chad Johnson, Amber Williams (Clinton), Alex Johnson, Jason Mitterling (Sydney), Daniel Johnson (Rebecca), Jessica Mitterling, Ashley Clark (Anthony) and Kaci Mitterling; and his siblings, Phyllis Walton, Beverly Prestwich (Thomas), Gwen Davis (Alma) and Paul Johnson (Julie). He is also survived by his many grandchildren and even great-grandchildren.
