He was predeceased by: his parents, Claude Griffin and Bertha Mae Chapple Madsen; his siblings, Renee and Robert; and his grandson Steven.

He is survived by: his wife Ellen Smith; his children, James Allen Madsen Orem (Holly), Michael Gary Madsen Highland (Tiffany), Janette Carter Orem (Corey), Steven Joseph Madsen Orem (Jamie) and Daniel C. Madsen; and his sister Kathy Moore of Provo. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
