John Alden DuBois Obituary

John “Alden” DuBois, age 89, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday morning, February 26, 2021, in Saratoga Springs, Utah. Alden was attended by his loving daughter, Joy Dunbar (DuBois) MacQueen and son-in-law, James Henry MacQueen.
He is preceded in death by his devoted wife Agnes “Gem” Dunbar DuBois. Alden is survived by his daughter and caregiver for the last six years, Joy Dunbar MacQueen, her husband, James Henry MacQueen, both of Saratoga Springs, Utah. He is also survived by his admiring grandson, Blake Henry MacQueen of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and his faithful niece, Shirley (Berkstresser) Hughart of Gainesville, Florida.
Alden was born in Homestead, Florida on July 11, 1933, and was a long-term resident of Jupiter, Florida. He grew up surrounded by the Jupiter Inlet and lighthouse with his three siblings; Pierre DuBois (passed at age 5), Arthur Neil DuBois and Marion Rose (Dubois) Hughart. Alden graduated Twin Lakes High School in West Palm Beach, and went on to served four years in the U.S. Airforce in the United Kingdom, where he met his beloved wife, Gem. He later attended Emory University earning a degree in Pharmacy. Alden worked over forty years as both a retail and hospital Pharmacist including a long tenure at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach.
He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Jupiter for many years and enjoyed attending church events.

His parents Dorothy Tower DuBois and Henry Sanders DuBois, both beloved lifelong residents of Jupiter, organized the USO for Camp Murphy in Hobe Sound during World War II to entertain the troops. Alden enjoyed playing ping-pong with the troops and never forgot that he would hold the table for hours!
The DuBois family were pioneers in Jupiter, FL and his grandparents Harry and Susan DuBois built the DuBois Pioneer Home (Home on the Hill) which is now in a museum located in the Dubois Park (named in honor of the family). Alden and Joy are direct descendants of John Alden who as a crew member sailed aboard the Mayflower to Plymouth Colony in 1620.
