He was predeceased by: his daughters, Susan Mercer and Julie Black; and his parents, Charles Emmett Mercer and Kathryn Geneve Evans Mercer. He is survived by: his siblings, Jedda and Bill; his wife Diana Sue Brown; his son Jeff (Becky); his son-in-law Sketter Black; his grandchildren, Colton Mercer (Charly), Tristan, Rae, Kimberly Freeman (Jordan) and Hawkins; his great grandchildren, Grayden, Zachary Black, Emmerick, Elowen, Skyler Black, Brody Black (Kylie) and Julie; and his siblings, Arva and Charles. He is also survived by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
