It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Elaine Smout Layton (Mapleton, Utah), who passed away on December 26, 2025, at the age of 86, leaving to mourn family and friends. Though her name may fade from the lips of time, the imprint Elaine leaves upon the hearts of her loved ones remains eternally vivid — a testament to the depth of her spirit and the richness of her legacy.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Leslie James and Norma Smout (Orton); her significant other Reese; her son Bill; and her brother Bill.
She is survived by: her children, Barbara Brown of Mapleton, UT, Debby Layton of Payson, UT, Michael Layton (Mary Ellen) of Glendora, CA and Jeffrey Layton of Trinidad, CO; and her foster children, Dursilla June Charley (Joe) of Tuba City, AZ and Henry Josley of Page, AZ. She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
