He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Gladding Prout and Rachel Prout (Denning); and his brother John Prout. He is survived by: his wife Joyce Prout (Fahnert); his sons, Nick Prout (Lisa) and Theron Prout (Andrea); his stepchildren, Mike Fahnert (Sue), Billy Fahnert (Carolin) and Leslie Fahnert; and his siblings, Jim Prout (Barbara) and Susan Bayne. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
